Exercise that Empowers!
You've worked hard to buff-up your exterior, but what strengthens you from within? Here are four exercises for a stronger, more self-confident you.
Exercise is a powerful tool for self-improvement. Its benefits range beyond physical benefits to psychological, from increased self-confidence to stress reduction. Not only will you see results, you will feel them.
Here are some exercises that can build your inner strength. They may help you shed a few pounds, too. KU Fit offers all of these types of exercise.
Yoga:
What it is: a series of postures and deep-breathing exercises practiced as part of an ancient Indian system of philosophy.
How it Empowers: Balancing the physical and spiritual, participants learn to concentrate on the quality of movement and let the body function as a whole. Enthusiasts discover a heightened sense of body awareness and a cross-training tool that improves athletic performance while minimizing the risk of injury.
Pilates:
What it is : Exercises done on specially designed equipment (or in modified form on mats) which help build your 'core', including your back, abdominals, inner thighs, and hips.
How it Empowers: Once you get your core stronger, your whole body becomes stronger. Pilates also increases flexibility. It lengthens the muscles.
Resistance Training:
What it is: A routine involving the use of resistance to develop muscle. Resistance is the amount of weight that is lifted.
How it Empowers: Improves strength and builds muscle, which increases your caloric burning at rest. Resistance training energizes you, makes you strong and increases bone density. Strength gives you confidence and makes daily activities easier.
Kickboxing:
What is it: Cardiovascular aerobics using shadow boxing, basic kicks, punches, and resistance training. All set to enjoyable, up-beat music.
How it Empowers: Not only does kickboxing relieve stress, it improves cardiovascular endurance and provides a remarkably easy way of improving personal confidence.
